In spirit of Halloween, I felt compelled to share my biggest fear. As you can imagine, it blends between my work and personal life. And it’s quite simple…
Is all of this a waste of time?
My Biggest Fear
Earlier this year I made the video below. Now this wasn’t my most popular TikTok from a view count perspective, but I remember it as a turning point for Habits.
It was the first video that lead to dozens of meaningful DMs that eventually became real relationships, supporters, Habits users and even a few investors. These were other like minded late 20, 30 and early 40yr olds.
@jack_boudreau_ Keep going. You’re not alone. #motivation #mentor #entrepreneur #startup
What we shared in common was this fear of wasting our time. And let me be clear this has nothing to do with regrets, nor is it about the desire to be doing something else. It’s not knowing when to quit, pivot, or move on.
Think about that gut feeling or inner voice that whispers at you. The thing that’s meant to keep you on the path to your true north. Now consider being in a position where you’re so focused, driven, or heck even just comfortable that you can’t hear or recognize it…that’s the fear.
And it’s tricky because I’m such a glass half full type of person. I’m literally the definition of golden retriever energy. I love stepping outside of my comfort zone, trying new things, taking chances, betting on myself, and getting back up no matter how hard I fall.
So I will always find a way to spin a situation into a positive mindset. Yes, it’s a healthy perspective, but I fear it distracts me from my inner voice.
Because at some point I’m going to wake up and be in my 50s. And I want to say to myself “I gave it my all and didn’t waste a single moment.”
That’s why we must savor every day. Be present. Try our best. Build balance between our work and relationships. And find fulfilment in our daily lives.
Of course it’s important to prepare for the future, but that doesn’t mean you can’t live today.
This fear is one of the many reasons (don’t cringe) I have a financial advisor. I’m able to maximize today without worry about my future.
And that ladies and gentleman, is why it’s so scary. Since I think we forget that we’ll never be this young.
Forgive me for the word vomit here, but many of you have asked for an even more raw and authentic exposure to what goes on in my head.
Happy Halloween! Be safe and well.
